Tangier beaches — frequently asked questions

What is the best beach in Tangier?

Achakar and Sol beach below Cap Spartel are the cleanest sand near the city, Malabata is the easiest to reach on foot from the corniche hotels, and Belyounech and Ksar Sghir have the calmest Mediterranean water for families.

Can you swim in the sea in Tangier?

Yes, from roughly June to September when the water sits around 20–23°C. The Atlantic side at Achakar and Robinson has real currents, so swim between the lifeguard flags; the Mediterranean coves east of the city are much calmer.

Are Tangier beaches free?

The sand is free everywhere. Sunbeds and parasols at the managed beach clubs cost roughly 50–100 MAD a day, and beach cafés expect you to order if you use their loungers.

How do I get to the beaches near Tangier?

Malabata and the city beach are walkable from the centre. Achakar, Cap Spartel and Robinson are 14 km west — a private transfer is 449 MAD one way or 600 MAD return, which works out cheaper than negotiating a taxi both ways.

Which Tangier beach is best for families?

Belyounech, Ksar Sghir and the sheltered end of Malabata: shallow entry, calmer water and cafés within sight of the sand.

Can you do water sports on Tangier beaches?

Yes — jet skis, parasailing, kayaks and paddleboards run through the summer along the bay, and private boat trips leave from the marina. All of them can be booked here at a fixed price instead of haggling on the sand.
